  • Tutorial is horrible

Farmville 2 Country Escape is a time management farming sim available for PC and mobile devices.

If you liked Farmville, you'll adore Farmville 2. It takes the basic formula of the first game and improves upon it in almost every area. The game looks better, plays better, and certainly has a better control scheme. The game doesn't post to your social accounts nearly as often, and sets itself up as more of management sim than as a weird social marketing tool. All in all, it makes for an entertaining entry point into a genre that's grown by leaps and bounds over the years.

What's bad about Farmville 2? On one hand, there's everything that was bad about Farmville. The game still wants you to spend money, it still wants to get its hooks into your social media accounts, and it's still going to gate content behind time locks. On the other hand, there's the new problem of a boring tutorial. Thanks to the new interface, there's no reason that this needs to exist. Unfortunately, the game's going to hold your hand for quite some time, making you seethe in frustration until you can get to the part where you can actually play the game.

When you play Farmville 2, you're still just playing Farmville. If you're looking for a very basic Free to Play game that will let you kill some time, you'll get everything you want out of this release. If you're looking for depth - or for a game without microtransactions - you'll want to look for something else. This game, for good or ill, is a perfect representative of its genre and should be treated as such.
